Acupuncture

As a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that’s been used for thousands of years, acupuncture is a health system that can effectively and naturally address various health conditions.

Who Can Benefit?

Anyone who is seeking relief from a physical ailment and discomfort or the effects of emotional imbalance-both acute and chronic conditions-can benefit from acupuncture. The treatments can regulate the nervous system and decrease inflammation leading to quick and lasting relief.

There are many health benefits associated with acupuncture. Acupuncture and holistic medicine can help heal and strengthen our constitutional foundation, allowing the mind and body to return to a vital state of being. Here are some of the conditions for which acupuncture can be beneficial:

  • Acute and chronic pain
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Autoimmune disease symptoms
  • Digestive discomfort
  • Fatigue
  • Gynecological issues
  • Insomnia
  • Musculoskeletal issues
  • Respiratory problems
  • Skin conditions

Here are four ways to prepare for your acupuncture treatment:

1.) Eat something
It’s best to eat something approximately two hours before your treatment. This will ensure your comfort and help to avoid any unwanted lightheadedness or fatigue.

2.) Wear loosing fitting and comfortable clothes
Doing so allows the practitioner to access treatment points on the arms, legs, abdomen and back as well as optimizes your comfort and relaxation.

3.) Try to avoid caffeine
We recommend avoiding caffeine for two hours prior to your treatment. Caffeine is a stimulant and can counteract the healing mechanism of acupuncture.

4.) Set aside time for yourself before and after treatment
Acupuncture can be a very relaxing experience. We recommend not overbooking the day of your treatment with stressful activity.

When you come in for your first session you will spend 15-20 minutes completing intake paperwork. You will then have a consultation with the Acupuncturist to review your history and current conditions to determine what treatment is necessary. Your treatment will involve Acupuncture as well as cupping and bodywork, if the condition permits. In total, the first treatment lasts about an hour and thirty minutes.

Q. How do you put patients at ease who may feel nervous about the needles used in acupuncture?

A lot of people do feel nervous about needles so we begin by explaining that the needles used in acupuncture treatments are hair-thin, stainless steel and disposable. These needles are nothing like the ones used in medical offices.
Q. Is it safe?

Yes, acupuncture is widely recognized as one of the safest forms of medicine. Every acupuncturist undergoes extensive training and is regulated by their state’s medical board. One of the greatest benefits of acupuncture is that it has virtually no side effects.
Q. How does acupuncture differ from chiropractic?

Acupuncture treatments require less physical manipulation. The insertion of very thin needles on or near the surface of the skin in acupuncture points has the ability to alter various biochemical and physiological functions. With the release of various hormones and neurotransmitters primarily from the brain, a wide variety of disorders that are physical, mental and emotional are affected.
